Friday Night Football: Toms River North (2-0) vs. Jackson Memorial (2-0)

Friday night, Jackson Memorial High School will travel to Toms River High School North for a key Shore Conference Class-A South match up as the undefeated Jaguars play the undefeated Mariners.    In two games this season, the Mariners have outscored their opponents 73-41, while the Jaguars had a few close come from behind games in a  tough schedule.     In Jackson’s home opener, they defeated Manalapan 12-7 in a come from behind last-minute win.    After going up 6-0 in the first, Manalapan took a 7-6 lead before the Jaguars finished them off in the final minutes.  Brandon Winston rushed for over 100 yards in that game.  In week two, Brandon Winston rushed for 133 yards against Brick Memorial in a stunning last minute come from behind win when Jags QB Jim Celidonio connected with Johntel Thomas to beat the Mustangs 19-14.

The Mariners started their season with a 28-21 win against Howell, rushing for a combined 280 yards.  Quarterback Scott Buxbaum ran made the 100-100 club in his first varsity start, running and passing for over 100 yards.  In week 2, North steamrolled Middletown North 45-20.

With two teams that have a big rushing game and plenty of opportunities to put up 100 yard games, defense will likely be the deciding factor in this key Class A South match up.
