ORGANISERS of Strathpeffer Pavilion’s popular annual art fair have achieved another Royal coup.
Prince Charles has agreed to lend two of his own paintings for display at this year’s event, which will run from November 24 to 27.
The pictures include a view of the Cairngorms entitled “Beinn A Bhuird, Invercauld” and “Ksar Douira, Morocco”, painted by the prince during a visit to Africa.
The prince first lent his paintings for display at the art fair two years ago following a visit to the Pavilion earlier that year to mark the renovation of the building.
And in another boost for the fair, singer-songwriter Donnie Munro, best-known to many as the former lead singer of iconic Celtic rock band Runrig, is set to exhibit some of his work at next month’s Strathpeffer Pavilion Art fair. while most fans know him best as a singer, Munro’s first love was art. He studied at Gray’s School of Art and Moray House School of Education before embarking on his illustrious musical career. Examples of his recent work, which include landscapes and abstracts, can be seen on his Facebook page.
The Pavilion’s Margaret Macdonald, who is an art fair committee member, said, “Donnie has given two great concerts at the Pavilion, to large and enthusiastic audiences.
“He told us he had not found time or opportunity to paint for a while and usually sold his work through the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh. however, he was interested to hear about the Pavilion Art fair and said that, when he did find time to paint again, he would seriously consider taking part in it. We are just delighted that he has confirmed he will do so this year.”
Mr Munro said he was delighted to see the resurgence of the Pavilion as a popular entertainment venue and is happy to back the art fair. He said, “It’s wonderful to see it restored not only as a live entertainment venue but also offering a whole variety of functions and events and I’m happy to support it by taking part in the art fair.
“I was also very glad to hear that art students from Dingwall Academy have again been invited to show work at the art fair, as they did last year.”
Art fair committee member, Anne Marie Foot, said, “The main object of the fair is to raise funds for the Pavilion but, in the process, we do want to encourage as many people as possible to come and discover the amazing wealth of artistic talent in the Highlands and Islands, on display in this famous building.”
“We are also grateful to Mackays Garage, Dingwall and Square Wheels, Strathpeffer for once again sponsoring this year’s event.”
More than 130 artists are expected to have work on display this year.
Artists participating in Strathpeffer Pavilion Art fair for the first time include Willie Fulton, Gillian Jones, Donnie Munro, Caroline Simmill and Katy Spong. Esther Armstrong, Clare Blois, David Body, Kirstie Cohen, Margaret Ferguson, James Hawkins, Janis Mennie, Peter Munro, Christine O’Keeffe, Gordon Rennie, Donald Shearer, Andrew Sinclair, Dot Walker and Alan S. Watson are among those taking part again in 2011.
Strathpeffer Pavilion Art fair will be open from Thursday to Sunday, November 24-27 inclusive from 10am each day, with late opening on the Thursday and Friday.
Entry is free (though donations are welcome), teas and coffees will be on sale and there will be a raffle.
All proceeds from the event go to the voluntary group Friends of the Pavilion.
They in turn regularly contribute funds to support the pavilion, which is registered as a charity and run as a social enterprise for the benefit of the community.
